Welcome to Horizon Ministries

Greetings in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We are Duane and Ruth Mayfield, co-Founders of Horizon Ministries. We would like to introduce ourselves and invite you to visit all of our ministry pages to get to know us and our ministry.

Duane Mayfield, the Director and primary speaker of Horizon Ministries, grew up in Central California, was educated at Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, and, for 17 years, was a minister for various California Churches of Christ, serving as a senior pastor, media director, and minister of Christian education. During that time, he also served as Editor of Christian Appeal Magazine, Producer and Host of Direction, a daily radio comment, and taught Old Testament and New Testament at Pepperdine University.

In 1982, he left the pastorate and went to Israel to work independently as a minister at large. He has lived there temporarily 7 times, conducting support ministies among various Christian churches. Recently he has lived in Israel from 2004 until 2009. In 2005, he began serving on the Leadership Team at Narkis Street Congregation in Jerusalem (www.narkis.org), one of the churches he has associated with since 1982.

Ruth McMillan Mayfield is from Rochester, New York, and holds a BS degree in computer science from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She worked in telecommunications software in Rochester, as a project manager until May of 2005, when they married and she began full-time ministry.

She was active in Rochester's Bethel Christian Fellowship, and the Shema Yisrael Messianic Congregation. As a member of Bethel's leadership team, she directed home cell groups and Bible study groups. She has also directed intercessory prayer groups, nursery coordination and taught in children's church. By the laying on of hands and prayer, both congregations commissioned her to serve as their ministry representative during her several trips to Israel.

Since 1979, Ruth's primary ministry had been intercessory prayer, especially for Christian workers in Israel and abroad. Not only has she prayed for them, but has heavily supported them financially, as well as opening her home and loaning them cars during their visits to the United States.

Duane and Ruth each have much experience walking by faith and allowing God to direct their footsteps. It was God ordained that they meet in Jerusalem in 2004 and be married there May 5, 2005. They are anointed to be a "father and mother" to the body of Christ. Duane's own family includes 3 married sons and 6 grandchildren, all in Fresno, California. Ruth has a married daughter, 3 grandchildren, and 3 sons, one married. As a couple they immediately launched an international evangelism and teaching outreach, Horizon Ministries, with a preaching mission to Uganda, Africa. They continue to walk by faith together allowing God to use them in whatever capacity He chooses. They have agreed by faith "to be, to go and to do" whatever the Lord asks of them. Their recent trials and miraculous testimonies of God's healing hand in the face of death attest to God's faithful intervention in their lives. Ruth's subsequent book, Trusting God through the Valley, portrays their walk of faith that has been the catalyst sending them into the current phase of ministry in the US.
