Our Purpose
| We fully subscribe to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which declares that sin separates all humanity from God, and that personal reconciliation with Him is granted to all who place their trust in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, as their Lord and Savior: crucified for the sins of the world; buried in the earth three days; raised bodily from the dead on the third day; ascended to Heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father; returning to the world bodily to judge the living and the dead. |
| The Lord sovereignly brought us together in marriage to form a husband-and-wife team for the purpose of preaching and promoting the Gospel of Christ, as expressed in the preceding statement, wherever, whenever and however we can. This may involve participating in revivals, church planting, pastoring, media ministry, knocking on doors, and many other activities. We are holding ourselves open to whatever God assigns, both in the US and around the world. Thus, our name: Horizon Ministries. |
1. Uganda
Our ministry together began formally with our marriage in Jerusalem, May 5, 2005. Our first assignment was to go to Uganda for 10 days to address an intercessory prayer conference during the day and preach evangelistic sermons in the evenings and on Sundays. In 2006, we returned to Uganda for preaching, teaching and preparations for mass evangelism during the next visit. The Lord blessed our efforts abundantly. Individuals received healing and deliverance, and we laid groundwork for several future projects. We continue to maintain contact and regularly send finances to support orphans and widows in Lugazi, Uganda as a conduit of God's mercy and love.
2. Israel
While living in Jerusalem we engaged in activites at the Narkis Street Congregation. This included encouraging the church with the results of our mission, teaching, counseling and intercessory prayer. For four years we lived in Jerusalem serving as part of the leadership team at Narkis Street Congregation and ministered to the body of believers in Israel and the many foreigners who visit or volunteer. During this time we formed many strategic connections with believers around the world. This afforded us the opportunity for prayer and correspondence with many in leadership in Israel and in countries around the world. We maintain these contacts and share prayer requests and needs with those partnering with our ministry through newsletters and speaking engagements.
3. The US
Several times during our stay in Jerusalem we traveled to the US where we have shared our testimony in churches, home groups, and radio interviews across several states. In March 2006 and April 2007, we served as chaplains for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in New Orleans ministering to victims of Hurricane Katrina. One unexpected answer to prayer to see miracles in our ministry began as we ministered in Houston, TX. This began a miraculous faith journey of healing and restoration that led to the publishing of Ruth's second book, Trusting God through the Valley. This ultimately led us to our new phase of ministry back in the US. With the publishing of Ruth's first book, Visions in the Night, doors opened for her to minister in women's meetings and through book signings at both Christian and mainline bookstores. 1. US
We will conduct our ministry from Rochester, NY with the same global vision and with a focus on the importance of Israel to the Church. We believe that it is the Lord's timing to assign us to equipping believers throughout the US with tools of prayer, discipleship and faith producing the miraculous. We expect to see signs and wonders following as we share our testimony, faith, anointing and spiritual wisdom with the body of Christ. We look forward to more opportunities to teach, preach and share our experiences living by faith with unique insights, through invitations to visit congregations throughout the US.
With the release of Ruth's second book in March, 2009, we saw expansion of her ministry and speaking engagements. Her blogs and online correspondence have been a blessing to many. She is involved in some strategic intercession teams. Ruth is researching a new book and Duane is studying and researching to do some writing as well.
2. Israel
We will focus much of our ministry on prayer for Israel and the importance of focus on God's plans for her as the Day of the Lord approaches. We plan to travel each year to Israel and expect to take small groups on ministry tours. Beginning next year, we hope to bring people to connect with believers from around the world, who love Israel, at the Jerusalem Prayer Convocation for all Nations sponsored by Tom Hess. 3. Uganda
In addition to evangelism and discipling members of the body of Christ, one of the main assignments the Lord has given us is the privilege of helping Pastor Steve Umaru Bugwegwe, in Lugazi, Uganda, purchase sound equipment and a power generator to conduct open-air revivals. Our plans include connecting with organizations who can offer assistance with Pastor Steve's support of approximately 40 widows and orphans who are members of their church.
4. The World
We continue to receive invitations to many countries, including: Zambia, Kenya, Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Hong Kong, Russia, and others. We are waiting for the timing of the Lord and financial commitments for specific projects before arranging definite schedules. Duane's health has curtailed our ability to travel for a time, but we expect the Lord to continue to establish relationships and connections for future ministry.
